Glowiak Hilton encourages local organizations to apply for pre-apprenticeship funding

WESTMONT – To expand the 23rd District talent pipeline and boost diversity in Illinois’ construction and building trades, State Senator Suzy Glowiak Hilton is encouraging local community-based organizations to apply for the latest round of funding through the Illinois Works Pre-Apprenticeship Program. 

“There are job opportunities out there for everyone, all requiring different skillsets,” said Glowiak Hilton (D-Western Springs). “This program is a great opportunity people should take advantage of so we can continue to build an equipped workforce across the state.”

The Illinois Works Pre-Apprenticeship Program launched in 2021 through the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity with the goal of increasing access to apprenticeship programs to a more diverse pool of candidates. These comprehensive pre-apprenticeship programs help participants gain admission to apprenticeship programs, which provide graduates a greater opportunity to start a long-term career in the trades. Since the program’s inception, Illinois Works has awarded over $70 million to community-based organizations serving over 7,000 Illinois residents.

Glowiak Hilton law modernizes epinephrine access

SPRINGFIELD — For the parents of children with life-threatening allergies, every outing carries a level of anxiety that other families never have to consider. Senator Suzy Glowiak Hilton is easing that burden under a new law that will recognize all FDA-approved epinephrine treatments.

“Parents need that comfort knowing their child will have access to whatever form of epinephrine works best, whether they are at school, camp or an after school program,” said Glowiak Hilton (D-Western Springs). “Severe allergic reactions can happen at any time and any place, and can be a life or death situation.”

House Bill 3454 will update current Illinois statute — covering schools, law enforcement, after-school programs, camps, home health care and health insurance — to replace the outdated term "epinephrine injector" with "epinephrine delivery device." This change will align state law with the FDA-approved treatments that exist today.

Under the Glowiak Hilton law, the change will ensure institutions and caregivers across Illinois are not legally restricted to needle-based injectors when newer options, like the epinephrine nasal spray Neffy, are available and approved for use.

House Bill 3454 was signed into law Friday and takes effect Jan. 1.

Glowiak Hilton law expands protections for seniors

SPRINGFIELD — In an effort to stamp out cases of caregiver abuse and exploitation, criminal liability will be expanded to voluntary caregivers who look after seniors and individuals with disabilities under a new law sponsored by State Senator Suzy Glowiak Hilton.

“Seniors should not be taken advantage of, especially by the people caring for them,” said Glowiak Hilton (D-Western Springs). “We are taking important steps to address abuse, neglect and exploitation so our seniors and individuals with disabilities can live with the dignity, safety and respect they deserve.”

House Bill 4676 will expand protections for seniors and individuals with disabilities by ensuring Illinois’ caregiver abuse and neglect laws apply to people who voluntarily assume care of an elderly person or individual with a disability.

Glowiak Hilton law removes restrictions for first responders parking emergency vehicles

SPRINGFIELD — Law enforcement officers and firefighters will soon be able to park their work vehicles at home without being subjected to homeowners' or condominium association restrictions under a new law led by State Senator Suzy Glowiak Hilton.

“First responders should not be subjected to penalties from their HOA when parking a work vehicle at their house,” said Glowiak Hilton (D-Western Springs). “This is a common-sense law that will remove unreasonable restrictions put on our law enforcement officers and firefighters.”

House Bill 67 will prohibit an HOA from designating a marked law enforcement vehicle assigned to an officer or a marked firefighter vehicle assigned to a firefighter as a commercial vehicle.
